Restoring Healthy Circulation — Without Surgery

At Heart Vein & Vascular Clinic, Dr. Babak Alex Vakili, MD, FACC, FSCAI, an interventional cardiologist board-certified in Endovascular Medicine by the American Board of Vascular Medicine (ABVM), offers advanced minimally invasive treatments for poor circulation caused by narrowed or blocked arteries.

Our goal is simple: restore blood flow, relieve discomfort, and help you return to an active, healthy life.

Understanding Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

Your arteries are like flexible highways carrying oxygen-rich blood from your heart to every part of your body. Over time, fatty deposits (plaque) can build up inside those arteries — a process called atherosclerosis.

When this happens in the legs, it’s called Peripheral Artery Disease.

As arteries narrow and stiffen, your muscles and skin don’t receive enough oxygen.

You might notice:

– Pain, cramping, or heaviness in your legs when walking (called claudication)
– Cold feet or toes
– Wounds or ulcers that won’t heal
– Discoloration, shiny skin, or hair loss on your legs or feet

Left untreated, PAD can progress and threaten limb health — but with today’s technology, it’s often treatable without major surgery.

How We Diagnose Circulation Problems

We start with a detailed exam and simple, painless tests to measure blood flow:

– Ankle–Brachial Index (ABI) or Toe–Brachial Index (TBI) — quick office tests that compare blood pressure in your legs to your arms.
– Vascular Ultrasound — shows exactly where blockages or plaque exist.
– CT or MR Angiography — detailed imaging to plan the best approach when needed.

These tests help us create a precise, personalized treatment plan — one that targets the true cause of your symptoms.

Our Endovascular Treatment Approach

At our comfortable, outpatient catheterization lab, most procedures are done through a tiny skin puncture rather than a surgical incision. Dr. Vakili specializes in:

– Balloon Angioplasty – gently widening narrowed arteries.
– Stent Placement – keeping vessels open and improving long-term flow.
– Atherectomy (rotational, directional or laser) – removing hardened plaque safely and effectively.
– Advanced Imaging (IVUS) – viewing the artery from inside to ensure optimal precision.

Most patients return home the same day — walking better and healing faster, with minimal discomfort and recovery time.

Why Early Treatment Matters

Peripheral artery disease is progressive, but early diagnosis and treatment can:

– Relieve pain and restore walking ability
– Heal wounds that aren’t improving
– Prevent limb loss and reduce risk of amputation
– Lower future heart attack and stroke risk

If you have leg pain, foot wounds, or poor circulation, don’t wait — we can help you regain mobility and confidence.
